"The Bully Pulpit"

A common practice of many churches today is the public condemnation of sin in others, particularly sexual transgressions in others. Rather than teaching the good news of Christ, many churches and preachers have taken it upon themselves to fixate on these motes in their neighbors eyes, while ignoring the more serious trangression in their own, that of hate, spite and even bigotry.

Some of these preachers and churches fixate on this to the exclusion of all else, centering the very core of their theological foundations on calling out the personal transgressions of others. One prime example of this was in the news recently, where a preacher who headed one of the largest evangelical Christian groups in the world made his name out of condemning homosexuals. This minister rose to the highest ranks in his field, including providing counsel to the highest levels of government.

Later, we find this preacher is caught in the act of homsexuality, along with prostitution and drugs. And as if the irony were not enough, this preacher spent his time apologizing for the sexual act, and never confronting the greater sin of his unrighteous judgement of his fellow man for their personal transgressions. He thought he needed to repent of being a homosexual, and never considered that he needed to repent of the greater sin, of hypocrisy and unrighteous judgement.

Another prime example is a church that is infamous now for attending the funerals of dead soldiers so as to call out the sexual transgressions of others, particularly homosexuality. This churches membership has set itself up as judge over all others, and spends their time adding insult to injury and causing pain and hurt for grieving families at a time when they need the comfort of the Gospel of Christ the most.. Yet instead of preaching the Gospel of Christ, this church like so many preaches its own doctrines of Christianity mingled with Old Testament dogma and ideologly. In doing so they preach an almost "anti-Christ" doctrine that twists the pure love of Christ into hate, vengence and prejudice.

Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged

So when to judge, and when to not judge? How does one know? Well a good start is to follow the masters example, who didn't judge people on personal transgressions, foibles and folly, but did condemn the greater sins of hyporcisy, greed and murder.

Science & Theology

Does Science Contradict the Bible?

God created our brains and commanded us to use them. Science is not contrary to the Bible nor the Gospel of Christ. Science permitds us to understand the universe we inhabit. Religion and Faith permits us to examine the why behind the how and when. Using Science means using the talents and capabilities that were given us to understand the universe around us. Without science man is groping in the dark and mysticism and superstition find fertile breeding grounds to thrive in. Science shines a light on reality and the environment in which we live. Religion shines a light on why we are here, and for what purpose it may have been created. Combined science and religion can bring us closer to understanding our environment and purpose here. Insisting on seperating the two limits the potential for understaning and restricts the availability of information as well as perspective.
