"If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle.

We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us.

It is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous"

Dr. Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World

Been There, Done That

"...Theocracy is the worst of all governments. If we must have a tyrant a robber barron is far better than an inquisitor.

The baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity at some point may be sated; and since he dimly knows he is doing wrong he may possibly repent. But the inquisitor who mistakes his own cruelty and lust of power and fear for the voice of Heaven will torment us infinitely more because he torments us with the approval of his own conscience and his better impulses appear to him as temptations.

And since Theocracy is the worst, the nearer any government approaches to Theocracy the worse it will be. A metaphysic held by the rulers with the force of a religion, is a bad sign. It forbids them, like the inquisitor, to admit any grain of truth or good in their opponents, it abrogates the ordinary rules of morality, and it gives a seemingly high, super-personal sanction to all the very ordinary human passions by which, like other men, the rulers will frequently be actuated.

- C.S. Lewis, Reflections on the Psalms, ch. 3

From the days of the child sacrifices to the gods of Egypt to the tortures and murders of the holy Inquisitions to the witch burnings of Salem to the iron rule of Sharia Law, theocracy has proven time and time again that it is a recipe for disaster and a doorway to great evil. Yet time and time again we see preachers, pastors prophets and popes treading on and even crossing that line in the mingling of church and state. Today in the world there are still many functioning theocracies and burgeoning ones that for some reason, refuse to learn from history. "Their" theocracy will always be different. Theirs will always be the right one. Theirs won't hurt anyone.

Yet they always do. Sooner or later, theocracies go sour. And usually its sooner rather than later. Yet churches today in the United States and their leaders work hard and openly trying to influence government to make laws to limit the civil rights of others Churches and religious groups in other countries practice barbaric methods. Preachers in this country often sanction and even applaud such religious dictatorships and their harsh methods to enforce compliance with ecclesiastical decrees. For some reason, modern man still cannot learn from our own history.

We've been there, done that. And it doesn't work.

The Evil of Theocracy

Religion being a matter of the will, it cannot be forced on anyone; in this matter it is better to employ words than blows.Of what use is cruelty? What has the rack to do with piety? Surely there is no connection between truth and violence, between justice and cruelty . . . .

It is true that nothing is so important as religion, and one must defend it at any cost It is true that it must be protected, but by dying for it, not by killing others; by long-suffering, not by violence; by faith, not by crime.

If you attempt to defend religion with bloodshed and torture, what you do is not defense, but desecration and insult. For nothing is so intrinsically a matter of free will as religion

- Lucius Caecilius Firmianus Lactantius "The Divine Institutes (V:20)

The Inquisitions, or the Supression of Heresy as it was formally known, were a prime example of the failing of Theocracy in the extreme. And the Inquisitions were not the first undertakings of heretical cleansing that involved torture. As we see, Lactantius wrote as early back as A.D 308 to plead with the church leaders and implore them to cease using the rack to extract confession or penance.

"Gott Mit Uns"

"What does Christianity mean today?

National Socialism is a religion. All we lack is a religious genius capable of uprooting outmoted religious practices and putting new ones in their place. We lack traditions and ritual. One day soon National Socialism will be the religion of all Germans.

My party is my church, and I believe I serve the Lord best if I do his will and liberate my oppressed people from the fetters of slavery. That is my Gospel."

Joseph Goebbels - Oct 16th 1928

According to a religious census taken in 1925, of the overall German population ( 65 million), 40 million belonged to the main Protestant (Evangelical Lutheran) church. Most of the rest (21 million) were Roman Catholic. These people made up the base of the Nazi Party, the majority being from the Evangelical Protestants. It is often asked how could an entire country be brought to be swayed into "total war" and the Nazi ideology. The answer however is evident to any student of the era. Religion mingled with government. Hitler was the new messiah. His thousand year reign represented the thousand year reign of Christ on earth, and the churches of Germany slowly dissolved into the septic pool of Nazism. The Nazi movement wasted no time moving its ideology into the pews of the local churches. Church leaders showed little resistance, and many went along willingly with the new Nazi party. Religious dogma was introduced into Nazi ideology. "Gott Mitt Uns" (stamped on the belt buckle of ever Wehrmacht soldier) was the cry of the land. In many respects, Germany became a theocracy, as the membership in the Nazi party became synonymous with piety. Hitler himself even appointed a "Reich Bishop"

The Nazi's leveraged the political patriotism but also the religious collectivism and dedication of the people by carefully mingling their ideologies with the predominant Christian faiths throughout Germany. And it worked. Corrupt the religion and the followers will follow you anywhere. And Nazi Germany taught us that lesson, all too well. One religion, the Christian religion was considered acceptable, but the rest, the Jews, Atheists and Muslims, did not fare so well and found that membership in them was an unhealthy prospect. At first it mean merely meant a little public insults, maybe a beating in an alley or two. Bullying. But gradullay it became something much worse, and ended up in the death camps of Auscwitz, Dachau, Treblinka, Buchenwald and many, many more. But it didn't start there. It started in the early indocrination of German people, including the youth.

"Hitler is our Saviour and hero, the noblest creature in the world.

For Hitler we live, for Hitler we die.

Hitler is our Lord."

Song sung by German Schoolchildren.

Was Nazi Germany a Theocracy? Of course not. It was a fascist dictatorship. But there is no question that they leveraged religion and faith establishing a national religion as it were, to promote Hitler in the eyes of the people as their Lord and Saviour. His so called thousand year reich was symbolic of Christs 1000 year reign on earth upon his return.

The churches were infiltrated by right wing fascists to mingle their political ideologies of racial purity and total war with divine destiny. Faith was twisted and the Gospel of Christ ignored in favor of Hitlers own musings and babblings on the subject. By mingling religion with government they were able to seduce almost an entire nation into supporting a party of lunatics. Religion is a powerful influence on the masses which is why it should never be mingled with secular government. And the Nazi Party was a prime example of that truth. .

Today we see an ever increasing call for evangelical Christianity to be mingled with our secular government. We see preachers out stumping for political figures. We see political figures and candidates holding prayer rallies, praying for their candidate as if God in heaven has somehow changed and now is concerned with the outcome of US elections (God is no respector of Kings nations or principalities). We see a warped and twisted version of the gospel that preaches cold indifference to the plight of our fellow man replacing the actual teachings of Christ and these twisted doctrines being promulgated into our government and laws. It is a frightening development and goes against everything the United States of America was founded on. A religious test of office is being placed on our elected officials by corrupt and cunning individuals claiming to represent Christ. To those individuals we say "been there, done that". And it didn't turn out well.

We are not a non-profit or for profit group. We are not a tax deductible organization and do not accept donations. We do not have any specific dogma or doctrine to convince you of. In other words, we don't want your time, your money or your souls. Our only goal is to provide a resource for those seeking to better understand the "Good News" brought by Christ during his 3 year ministry on earth.
